Bahamas Welcomes Visitors

As of July 31, 2020 the Bahamas has announced that all visitors must quarantine for 14 days upon arrival at a hotel, AirBnB or government facility. You must apply for a Bahamas health visa and have a negative COVID-19 PCR test result from an accredited lab that was taken within 10 days of arrival.

Previously on July 19, 2020 the Bahamas announced the shut down all passenger flights to and from US airports in an effort to contain exposure to the coronavirus.

Atlantis – Paradise Island – The Atlantis in Nassau is a great place to spend the day. Catch an inexpensive van from the cruise port directly to the hotel. The lobby area and the indoor saltwater aquarium viewing area are free. Watch scuba divers feed the fish, manta rays and sharks. This hotel has had celebrity guests like Michael Jordan, who rented the Bridge Suite for $25,000 per day. You’ll need to purchase a day pass to visit the fabulous beachfront areas. Up to the high tide line the beaches are public in the Bahamas, though. The Atlantis Hotel in the Bahamas is truly amazing.

Bahamas Weather

High temperatures from November to April average 80 F (27 C), while lows average 72 F (2 C). Rainfall is low during this period. The Bahamas are positioned in the Gulf Stream, making them susceptible to hurricanes from June to November. As with most Caribbean islands, the Bahamas are extremely popular from December to April. Tourism peaks at Christmas and spring break.

Lynden Pindling International Airport is in Nassau. Granda Bahama International Airport serves Freeport. Flights from Miami or Fort Lauderdale take less than an hour. During the height of the tourist season there are charter flights from several other cities.

Cruise ships make regular stops at Nassau and Freeport. Many cruise ship lines also have their own private islands in the Bahamas. It’s easy and inexpensive to take a shuttle from the port at Prince George Wharf in Nassau to the Atlantis Hotel for a day trip.

The Bahamas are a chain of hundreds of Caribbean islands. They are very close to southern Florida. The Bahamas are famous for their turquoise waters. The shallow seas cover a far greater area than the islands that make up the country. Nassau is the largest city and capital. It is located on the island of New Providence.Nassau has a permanent population of under 200,000. Paradise Island is joined by a bridge to New Providence and is the location for the famous Atlantis Hotel and its Atlantis Aquarium. The other major city in the Bahamas is Freeport, which is on the island referred to as Grand Bahama.
