Best Time of Year to Visit Indonesia

Indonesia is a tropical rainforest climate along the equator , so the weather is hot and humid all year long. You can expect roughly the same temperatures no matter what month of the year that you visit. The Indonesian rainy season extends from October to April. Recent global climate changes have resulted in the rainy season being delayed until as late as January. The months of June and July are likely the best time of year to visit Indonesia. Since the Indonesia islands cover such a large area, some islands like Sumatra may have their own seasonal weather patterns.

Visit Indonesia – Visa Requirements

Almost every country is exempt from visa requirements to enter Indonesia for up to 30 days. Check visa requirements for your specific country at VisaHQ. For a list of exempt countries, visit Project Visa. Passport holders from Afghanistan, Cameroon, Guinea, Israel, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, North Korea, Pakistan and Somalia need to have a visa organized in advance.

Indonesia – Currency

The Indonesian Rupiah is the currency of Indonesia. Taxis and some vendors will accept US dollars, but it can be problematic to depend on other currencies. For example, none of the numerous temples commonly visited by tourists will accept US$. You will also not find currency exchange options at major temples. So, make sure you obtain some Indonesian rupiahs at the airport or cruise terminal when you arrive.

Electrical Adapters for Indonesia

When you Visit Indonesia you will need a two prong European electrical adapter. Type C and Type F electrical adapters will work. These two prong electrical adapters also work in many other countries, like Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Sweden, Finland, Portugal, Spain and Eastern Europe.

Indonesia Drinking Water

Don’t drink tap water when you visit Indonesia. Even locals don’t drink tap water, so stick to bottled water during your visit.

Indonesia Background

Indonesia has thousands of islands strung along the equator beside the Indian Ocean, the South China Sea and the Pacific. Active volcanoes and dormant cinder cones are a common part of Indonesian geography. While Krakatoa is probably the best known, Indonesia has more than 100 active volcanoes. The island of Bali is Indonesia’s most common tourist destination because of its beaches, low cost of living and popular Balinese Hindu temples. Jakarta, Sumatra  and Komodo are also well known islands. Locals from Jakarta and other Indonesian islands often tend to vacation in Bali. Nearly 90% of Indonesia is Islamic, but Bali is mainly Hindu.
