Visit Montenegro – Plan Your Trip

Touring Montenegro

Best Time of Year to Visit Montenegro

The summer weather is comfortable and dry in Montenegro. So, summer is the most popular time to visit Montenegro. Crowds can be overwhelming in July and August. Spring and fall get our vote for the best time of year to visit Montenegro, because the weather is good and tourist volumes are lower. A cruise ship or a day trip from Dubrovnik in Croatia are both great ways to visit Montenegro. Cruise ships visit Kotor from March through December.

Montenegro – “Very Aggressive People” ???

Montenegro has been lobbying hard to join the European Union since 2008. Russia is opposed to Montenegro joining the EU. Clearly Donald Trump doesn’t want Montenegro to join the EU either. In May of 2017, Trump was filmed shoving the Prime Minister of Montenegro in front of NATO members. In July of 2018 Trump said the US wouldn’t ever protect Montenegrins because they are “very aggressive people”. If you visit Montenegro, you will see that nothing could be further from the truth. Trump seems to be on message with Russia in preventing Montenegro from joining the European Union.

Montenegro – Visa Requirements

Montenegro was part of the former Yugoslavia. When Yugoslavia dissolved, many smaller countries were created with borders to Montenegro in this area of the Balkans. Most nationalities don’t need a tourist visa if you are staying less than 3 months. Although not a member of the European Schengen Zone, Montenegro basically follows the European Union’s Common Visa Policy. Many countries outside the Schengen Zone do not require a visa. Exemptions include citizens of Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States. Check your specific country at VisaHQ. For a list of exempt countries, visit Project Visa.

Montenegro – Currency

Montenegro is not a member of the European Union, but has been given special permission by the European Union to use the Euro as their currency.
