Visit Denmark – Plan Your Trip
Best Time to Visit Denmark
Due to the influence of the Atlantic, Denmark has a temperate climate with winter temperatures hovering around freezing and cool summers with lots of daylight. Summer is the best time to visit Denmark.
Denmark – Visa Requirements
Denmark participates in the Schengen Zone and Schengen Visa requirements. There are no border inspections by rail or vehicle when traveling from Denmark to Sweden and Germany. Some countries that are not members of the Schengen Zone require a Schengen Visa to enter Europe. Exemptions include citizens of Australia, Canada, Mexico, Japan, New Zealand, the United Kingdom and the United States.
Denmark Currency
Although Denmark is part of the European Union, it does not participate in the use of the Euro. Be prepared to obtain Danish krones at an ATM or use a credit card, as these are widely accepted.
Denmark – Electrical Adapters
The Europlug Type C electrical adapter is what you will need to keep your phones and cameras charged when you Visit Denmark. Your electrical adapter for Denmark will work in most European countries.
Train Travel in Denmark
You can either purchase train tickets at stations in Denmark or you can use the DSB national railway system website. You can also use the DSB app. By using DSB you can pick your route and pay for your trip. You can also use the location feature to buy local one way tickets without going through the steps of making a purchase. Unfortunately, Denmark hasn’t implemented local credit card transit yet.
DSB offers Standard (2nd class), DSB 1′ (1st Class), Orange and Orange Fri tickets. Orange and Orange Fri are discounted tickets that are only valid for one selected departure time. Orange tickets are non-refundable, while Orange Fri tickets can be refunded online until 30 minutes prior to the scheduled departure. You can also purchase a seat reservation in Standard or DSB 1′.
Local Transit in Copenhagen
The downside of the DSB App is that you can’t buy a day pass, such as the Copenhagen City Pass. For this you will need the DOT app. Unfortunately, the DOT app is only for immediate trip purchases and it’s terrible for route planning. Most people use the DOT app in conjunction with the Rejseplanen app. Rejseplanen gives you everything you need for route planning and then provides seamless linking to DOT, DSB or RejseBillet for your final purchase. Many North Americans have trouble getting their phone number to be accepted during the registration process with these apps though.
